It's been an incredible week for our extra-curricular activities this week! Despite the temperamental weather, we've been able to enjoy activities both in and out of the classroom.
Craft Club
Craft club is proving popular and is growing fast! In the past few weeks, we have been busy deco patching a jewellery box while others have chosen origami. Year 9 and 10 are more than welcome to bring along their own project and come and have fun with us!
Hockey
Saturday saw the first 'competitive' hockey fixture for the year 7 and 8 girls. Playing within their bubble, 20 girls had a training match at Marjons. The girls were split into two equal-strength teams, with a mixture of experience on both. The match was split into three. Each third saw all girls rotated on, often experiencing different positions to their usual ones, and coaching occurring throughout the games. The final third left the positioning and substituting to the captains of the day (Mimi Dutta and Olivia Eadie). These two conducted their duties admirably and they ensured that the games flowed and that all players were encouraged and involved.
The matches themselves saw end-to-end hockey, with both teams keeping the opposing goal keepers busy. It was lovely to see some quality hockey being played, with the girls trying really hard to put our weekly skills, drills and tactics into their games. The red team marginally had the upper hand on the attack and were unlucky not to score more than their two goals, which were nicely slotted away by Sophie Ryland and Olivia Irish. Ella Short in goal for the black team was too good in denying them the score. The game finished 3-2 to the black team, with two well-worked goals from Maggie Haffenden (2) and a super solo effort from Freya Pearson. Each team nominated their opposing team's player of the match and most-improved player of the match. POMs were Blossom Coates-Maclean in goal for the red team, and Freya Pearson for the black team. Most improved awards went to Sophie Unwin and Olivia Chubb. It was a very successful match day and we look forward to the next one.
CCF
Good afternoon training with the CCF this week.
More drill in preparation for the drill test, which we've postponed until after half term, as the Covid restrictions are making it really hard to train!
Despite this, we have had some great CCF activities taking place such as Judging Distance with 2Lt Bassett and Sgts Odendaal & Gamble, Intro to Patrol Skills with Lt Osmaston and Air Rifle Training with Lt Chapman
Music
String Ensemble on Tuesday put together the whole movement of "La Caccia" from Vivaldi's "Autumn". 10 violins from Year 7-Year 13 and the virtuosic Jojo Sells in Year 11 took some very flashing string crossing and double-stopping. Well done to everyone involved!
