With the sun out at last and the temperature very mild, Newnham Park was the perfect setting for the whole school cross-country event.

The course was a mix of open fields and woodland trails, with a few hills thrown in for good measure.  Pupils ran either 4 km (Years 7 to 10), or 5 km (Year 11 and Sixth Form).

Moving up a place on last year, Palmers (red) took the top spot with Dales (yellow) in second, Sargents (green) in third and last year's winners Chaytors (blue) in fourth place.

In the seniors' 5 km race, Dominic Day (Lower Sixth) was first home for the second year running in a time of 14.49, setting a year record. Saskia Wormleighton (Upper Sixth) clocked 17.23 and a year record to be the first girl home also for the second time.  Joe Murray was the first Upper Sixth boy (15.57 year record), while Millie Evans was the first Lower Sixth girl to cross the line (18.37). James Wilson took the Year 11 boys' honour (15.55) with Charlotte Hill taking the top spot for Year 11 girls (19.22).

Frankie Aldred (Year 9) took the honours in the 4 km race finishing in 11.17 and setting a new course record.   Poppy Tank (Year 10) was the first girl in a time of 12.48 which was also a course record.   Steven Rogers (12.05) was the first Year 10 boy setting a new year record with Kay Bryson (15.02) first past the post for Year 9 girls. Josh Hellings (13.59) and Abbie Ingram (15.06) were the first home for Year 8 with George Spencer (13.27 year record) and Kendie Bynoe (15.14 year record) taking the top spots for Year 7.

Headmaster, Dr Simon Wormleighton, presented the individual medals and the Lang Cup.  The event was organized by Deputy Head, Sarah Dunn.

"Newnham Park is a spectacular setting and I'm delighted with how the race went", said Sarah.   "The weather was kind to us, which was a huge relief, and it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and energy of everyone coming together for a whole school event.

"A big thank you to parents Mr and Mrs Cobbold for letting us use Newnham Park again."
