This year's match between Plymouth College 1st XI and MCC was bathed in sunshine. The last couple of years have seen rain stop play for the match, which is part of MCC's annual tour of Devon and Cornwall.
MCC won the toss and Captain, Nick Folland, chose to bat. Cornwall U15 Captain, Tom Dinnis, struck early - MCC recovered to 47 when Ben Pearson took the second wicket. Matt Singh took the 3rd wicket, MCC 91-3, and Plymouth College Captain, Callum Cload, took the next three wickets with MCC declaring on a sporting 204-6.
In reply, Plymouth College openers Tom Dinnis and Cornwall U16 player Aaron Richards put on 82 for the first wicket when after tea, Dinnis 57 played across the line and was LBW to Gary Chappell. Only needing 4 an over, 4 singles would have done, unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals, including Richards 44, as the experienced MCC applied the pressure aided by Chappell's accurate bowling. Lusty hitting by Owen Jackson threatened but Chappell had the last say finishing with figures 16 overs, 4 maidens 5 for 40 and Plymouth College were bowled out for a disappointing 163, losing by 41 runs.
Tom Dinnis, who also took 1-3 from 6 overs, was nominated Plymouth College player of the match by MCC.
