Plymouth College pupils had a special lunchtime treat when the Central Band of the RAF put on a concert in the school's Meade-King Hall. The band tours the country each year as part of its outreach and recruitment programme. Plymouth College's music department made a successful bid to host the band on its south west leg.
Playing a range of music from the James Bond theme to Abba, the band's main feature was audience participation. This included an unusual dance (lean forwards, lean backwards) and playing percussion. The College also supplied the band with two new members - Mr Hawken was enrolled as a bass trombone player and not to be outdone, Mr Prideaux took on the distinguished role of conductor for one of the pieces.
During the tour the band played two concerts a day. Plymouth College was the last concert.
"We were treated to a magnificent afternoon of entertainment," said Plymouth College Director of Music and Performing Arts, David Green. "The band commented upon the enthusiastic reception they received during the concert and that it had given them a huge boost at the end of a long tour."
