Big Bang event takes Plymouth Schools on a journey of discovery.
More than 500 school pupils from around Plymouth are coming together on Monday 2 March to celebrate the amazing world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The Big Bang event, being hosted and organised by Plymouth College, promises to be a fantastic showcase of STEM activities to inspire the next generation.
Clare Cohen, Plymouth College science teacher and organiser, said: “The Big Bang is our chance to give hundreds of young people access to hands-on STEM activities, workshops and stage shows. The event is a big collaborative effort from across the city and we are being joined by the Royal Navy, the National Marine Aquarium, The University of Plymouth and City College Plymouth. We are also delighted to welcome Peter Wright from Wonderstruck, who will be delivering his famous Rocket Show which promises to be a true spectacle.”
The event is open to KS1 and KS2 pupils from Plymouth. Whilst spaces are filling up fast, there is still time to for schools to secure places at the event, where pupils can experience state-of-the-art Marine Augmented and Virtual Reality, or join in with an interactive bubble show from the University of Plymouth.
Tina Brinkworth, STEM Consultant for Plymouth is leading the event with Plymouth College and has said: “Events such as the Big Bang give us a chance to show young people what’s beyond the classroom. There’s an incredible world out there and a career in STEM is exciting and the options are endless. We want pupils from across Plymouth to understand that enjoying biology could lead to them becoming a Marine Conservationist, or that a passion for Physics could lead to a job controlling Remote Controlled Vehicles at the bottom of our oceans.”
