Budding artists at Plymouth College Preparatory School have let their creative juices flow in a painting session with renowned local artist, Brian Pollard.
Brian talked to the Year 2 children about his paintings and showed them how he creates his pictures. Using his style as their inspiration, the children took to their drawing boards and painted their own bold and colourful works of art.
Brian’s seascapes of Devon and Cornwall are instantly recognisable, with hot air balloons and fluffy white clouds drifting across blue skies, while yachts and fishing boats traverse the sea below. His paintings of Plymouth landmarks such as Smeaton's Tower have been immortalised in a series of prints and cards that have seen success throughout the UK and as far away as China and Japan.
“What a fantastic opportunity for the children to paint with such a respected artist as Brian Pollard,” said Plymouth College Headmaster, Chris Gatherer. “He was very impressed with the creativity and detail that went into the children’s work. Brian’s pictures are truly iconic and the children really captured his fun and vitality in their own paintings.”
